Penetrating, acrylic, epoxy and polyurethane sealers all do different jobs. Here is how to choose.
A sealer is the protective skin that keeps water, oil and salt out of concrete. Penetrating sealers soak in and leave a natural look. Acrylic sealers form a film that deepens color and adds gloss. Epoxy and polyurethane coatings are tougher and used in garages and shops. Each type has strengths and trade-offs for traction, durability and appearance.
The right choice depends on the surface and the use. Outdoors, a breathable sealer lets moisture escape while keeping water out. Slip-resistant additives help on pool decks and stamped concrete. Sealers wear and must be reapplied, often every two to five years, and the surface must be clean and dry before application. We recommend products that suit the concrete and the climate.
