Concrete Thickness and Rebar Planner

Pick your use, soil and slab size to see a suggested thickness, base depth, rebar spacing and joint layout to discuss.

These tools give planning-level estimates from typical values and the details you enter. They are not quotes, designs or engineering, and results depend on your actual site, soil, drainage, existing concrete, weather and local rules. Only a site visit can confirm what a project needs, and we give you a written scope and price before any work begins.

How it works

Four quick steps.

  1. 01

    Pick the use

Walkway, patio, car driveway, heavy driveway, garage floor or shop slab.

  2. 02

    Choose the soil

    Firm, average or soft clay.

  3. 03

    Enter the size

Length and width of the slab in feet.

  4. 04

    Read the plan

A suggested thickness, base depth, rebar spacing and joint layout to discuss.

Tips

  • The base and the drainage matter as much as the thickness.
  • Rebar should sit on chairs in the middle of the slab, not on the ground.
  • Joints should make squarish panels, about two to three times the slab thickness in feet.
Questions

About this tool.

Is this an engineering design?

No. It is a planning guide for conversations. Structural work may need an engineer, and we say so.

Why does soil matter?

Soft or clay soil moves, so it calls for a deeper base and sometimes thicker concrete.

Do all slabs need rebar?

Not all. Light slabs may use mesh or fibers, while heavy-use slabs usually benefit from rebar.

Can I change the numbers?

Yes. Try different uses and soils and compare.
