Flaking, scaling and pitted surfaces repaired with well-adhered patches and resurfacing, plus advice to stop it from returning.
Spalling is when the surface of concrete flakes, chips or peels away. Scaling is a shallow version of the same thing, with thin layers lifting off. Popouts leave small craters where stones have burst out. The causes include freezing water in the surface, de-icing salts, poor finishing and rusting steel under thin cover. A spalled Nashville driveway or step looks rough and can be a hazard, and the damage tends to spread in the next winter.
We find out why the surface failed before we fix it. Then we cut away loose material to sound concrete, clean and profile the area and apply a bonding agent. Repair mortars are placed and finished to match the surrounding texture. For widespread scaling, we apply a thin resurfacing layer across the entire slab so the repair does not stand out. If rusting steel is the cause, we treat it. We seal the repair and talk about de-icing products and drainage so the damage does not return.
Salt, freeze and thaw, poor finishing and rusting steel each need a different fix.
We remove all loose material, so the patch bonds to something solid.
Products made for thin patches bond well and resist weather.
Sealing and the right de-icing choices protect the repaired surface.

You tell us about your site and what you want, new concrete, a repair or a refresh, and we set a visit that fits your day.
We walk the property, measure the area, check drainage, soil and access, look at any old concrete and take photos of anything of note.
We explain your options for thickness, steel, finishes and colors, sketch the layout and give you a written scope with clear timing and pricing.
We arrange for underground utilities to be located, protect the house, lawn and landscaping, remove old concrete if needed and compact a stone base.
We set forms and steel, check heights and slopes, place and finish the concrete and cut joints, with the crew on site from the first truck to the last pass.
We protect the concrete as it cures, clean up the site, walk you through when to use it and seal it, and set a reminder for your next check.
Freeze and thaw with salt, poor finishing and too much water in the mix are common causes.
They can be, especially on young concrete. Sand or products rated for concrete are gentler.
Yes, with polymer-modified repair mortars. Widespread damage is better resurfaced.
Not if the cause is fixed and the surface is sealed. We explain what to avoid.
